How to Change a Fitbit Air Band (4 Steps, No Tools)

To change a Fitbit Air band, hold the band on both sides of the tracker, push down on top of the tracker to pop it out, then press it into the new band from below until it clicks and double-tap the top to check. No tools or pins are needed.

How to change a Fitbit Air band: push the tracker out, then click it into the new band from below

Changing a Fitbit Air band takes about 30 seconds and no tools. You push the small screenless tracker out of the old band, press it into the new band from below until it clicks, and double-tap to confirm it is seated. Google describes the same steps in its official setup guide, and they work for every Fitbit Air band in our store, including the bicep armband.

The four steps at a glance.

What do you need to change a Fitbit Air band?

  • Your Fitbit Air tracker (the small pill-shaped "pebble").
  • The new band, made for Fitbit Air.
  • Dry hands and about half a minute.

Step 1: Hold the band either side of the tracker

Take the band off your wrist. Pinch the outside edges of the band right next to where the tracker sits, so the band frame cannot bend away while you push.

Step 2: Push down on top of the tracker to pop it out

Press firmly on the top of the tracker with your thumb. It pops out through the underside of the band. Google's guide puts it simply: hold the band next to the device and push firmly on top of the device to pop it out.

Step 3: Press it into the new band from below

Turn the new band so its frame faces you. Line up the small alignment marks on the tracker and the band, then press the tracker in from below until it snaps into place. You should feel a click.

Step 4: Double-tap to check it is seated

Firmly double-tap the top of the tracker. If the light flashes, the tracker is seated correctly and you are ready to wear it.

What if the light does not flash?

  1. Take the tracker out and press it back in, making sure it clicks.
  2. Rotate the tracker so the small alignment marks line up, then try again. Google recommends this as the main fix.
  3. Check that the band frame is free of lint, sweat or sand.
  4. If the battery is flat the tracker may not respond, so charge it and try once more.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a tool to change my Fitbit Air band?

No. The Fitbit Air tracker pushes out of the band by hand and presses into the new band from below. There are no pins, screws or springs to release.

Which way round does the Fitbit Air tracker go into the band?

Line up the small alignment marks on the tracker and the band before you press it in. If the light does not flash when you double-tap, take it out, rotate it and try again.

Can I swap Fitbit Air bands every day?

Yes. The band mechanism is designed for the tracker to come in and out, so you can switch between a sport band and an everyday band as often as you like. Keep the band frame clean and dry so the tracker seats properly.

Do bands for other Fitbit models fit Fitbit Air?

No. Bands for other Fitbit trackers use different connectors and will not hold the Fitbit Air tracker. Choose a band made specifically for Fitbit Air.
